House of Commons back in session Thursday

MPS will sit in the House of Commons as usual Thursday, despite the deadly shooting that shook the nation on Wednesday.

Parliament Hill will remain closed.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper made a televised announcement Wednesday night to say Canada will not be intimidated.

Harper adds the attack is a reminder that Canada is not immune to the terror attacks we see across the world.

“Just as it will lead us to strengthen our resolve and re-double our efforts to work with our allies around the world and fight against the terrorist organizations who brutalize those in other countries with a hope of bringing their savagery to our shores. They will have no safe haven.”
Michael Zehaf-Bibeau has been identified as the gunman in the Parliament Hill shooting and also at the National War Memorial.

He had a criminal record for drug possession and robbery.

People across the nation are mourning the loss of Canadian soldier Corporal Nathan Cirillo.

The 24-year-old reservist from Hamilton was shot and killed at the National War Memorial by Zehaf-Bibeau.
