Prince George turns 103

A special birthday took place last week as the City of Prince George turned 103.

For any city to last over a century is a major accomplishment, says Mayor Lyn Hall.

“It really exemplifies what Prince George is all about,” he explains.

“For a community to be around for 103 years is significant. We’ve seen, certainly, a number of changes in our entire community, the landscape of the community, the fabric of the community, the community has become so diverse.”

The diversity is key for the city to continue growing but there is always more work to do.

“It’s important that we continue to develop and create a real foundation for people to want to move to Prince George, stay in Prince George, open up businesses, go to the university and the college,” Hall says.

“We need to really lay that foundation so its a city really receptive to that kind of growth.”

Hall also praises the city for staying close to its roots by continuing to embrace forestry as a main economic driver for Prince George.
