International Women’s Day at the College of New Caledonia is being celebrated with the introduction of its Red Phone Project.
It will highlight the college’s new sexual misconduct policy and procedures training, as well as promote healthy relationship on campus.
“A lot of times when you see these things in the news, people haven’t been able to access supports or they don’t know where to go”, explains CNC Wellness Coach Dana Hansen.
“That just highlights the importance of educating people around not only what to do in these situations but consent education can help prevent a lot of the problematic behaviour.”
Hansen says the goal is to help people, especially women, to feel safer and more comfortable.
“I want people to know that there are lots of people here who care about them and want them to feel OK and will be there for them if something happens.”

The Dental Assistant students at CNC are also getting in on the International Women’s Day activities, as they are giving toothbrushes and toothpaste, and provide oral health instruction and promotion at the Prince George Fire Pit Cultural Drop-In Centre.
