Cozzi proves clutch as Spruce Kings edge Chiefs in OT thriller

After a slow start to the BCHL Playoffs, the Prince George Spruce Kings seem to have their swagger back.

It showed on Monday as the visitors gutted out a 2-1 overtime victory over the Chilliwack Chiefs from Prospera Centre.

Patrick Cozzi played the overtime hero for the Spruce Kings as his wrist shot bounced off the skate of Chilliwack goaltender Daniel Chenard in the crease and luckily crossed the red line to seal the sudden victory.

Prince George never led in the game until the conclusion of the extra frame as they gave up the first goal for the second time in the series as Will Calverley scored early in the middle frame.

Evan DeBrouwer made 32 saves in net for the Spruce Kings, who now enjoy a 2-1 series lead in their best-of-seven Mainland Division series with Game Four set for Tuesday in Chilliwack.

The Rolling Mix Concrete Arena (RMCA) will play host to Game Five on Thursday with a 7PM puck drop.

Chays Ruddy potted his first of the post-season courtesy of a seeing-eye wrist shot got past the Chiefs defence and into the goal for a 1-1 tie after 40 minutes.
