City chips in for PG BMX Supertrak project

Monday’s regular council meeting saw the City of Prince George grant $42,660 to the Prince George BMX Supertrak.

The funds will help complete the rebuilding project of the track and start gate, with the organization needing help for resources such as concrete, gravel, and labour.

“The whole point of it is to grow it and these riders will be able to improve their riding and make sure that they’re able to be at a level with those outside,” says Derek Orr, a volunteer and rider who presented to council on behalf of the BMX Supertrak organization.

In addition to growing the sport to allow for more competitive meetings across the province and country, Orr says it could help their athletes reach even higher.

“There’s no doubt that some of these riders could very well, one day, be heading to the Olympics and racing,” he explains.

“This is a major win for Prince George as well as the riders.”

The goal is the have the work along the track completed by the end of April 2018.
