Remuneration approval for SD57 board members

Recommendations have been approved by SD57 to revise their annual remuneration for trustees.

This is usually done before the next election so people are motivated to run, and to make sure they are compensated for their time as a board members.

“especially with the election coming up and trying to encourage more people to run and to stand up for public education,” says Vice-Chair Trish Perrin. “It makes it difficult sometimes for a working trustee because what ends up happening is people will take their holiday time, or if they are on an hourly pay, they end up loosing money.”

The new recommendations will see an increase of 1.5 per cent for the chairperson, while $1,500 less will be given to vice-chair, and $3,000 less to trustees than that of the chairperson.

The increase goes as follows:

  • Chairperson – $18,270 up to $18,544
  • Vice-Chair – $16,770 up to $17,044
  • Trustees – $15,270 up to $15,544

“It’s not a lot of money, people don’t do it for the money. But to make sure it’s helping somebody make that decision that it’s not only for someone who is retired that can do this position, but opens the window up for others to do this position,” added Perrin.

This increase is $274 annually, making it a $22 raise monthly.
