An open house was held Tuesday night for the upcoming redevelopment of Ron Brent Park.

Expected improvements include paved trails, recreation facilities, horseshoe pits, raised gardens, benches, picnic tables, and lighting.

In terms of what the community thinks, Design Consultant John Buchko says its been nothing but positive feedback.

“People like the trails, they like the lighting, I think people are really excited by having a multigenerational park,” he explains.

“It’s not just about kids. It’s about seniors, it’s about 30- or 40-somethings, it’s having a variety of opportunities for intergenerational people.

People working on the project also touched base with a number of user groups in the area, including students of Ron Brent Elementary School.

“We committed with the city to meet with all the current user groups in the area, and there are many users that we weren’t able to touch but, nonetheless, we generated some great ideas particularly from the students,” Buchko says.

“We learned about their passion for their toboggan hill, unfortunately, we couldn’t build the ziplines, the fountains, the pools, some of the other fun things but nonetheless we got some great ideas through that process.”

The total budget for the project is $400,000. Construction is set to begin this spring, with the bulk of the project completed by the end of construction season in the fall.
