Funding is being provided from the government to help address and reduce homelessness in Prince George.
The United Way of Northern BC is receiving $2.2 million to support local projects across the city.
Parliamentary Secretary to the minister of international trade, Pamela Goldsmith-Jones, says since the start of the program they’ve seen a lot of success.
“Since, I believe 2014, 6,000 people have been prevented from being homeless through job training or education, and so, we know it’s an effective program and are building on what we know works.”
From the federal governments stand point, housing is a top priority in battling homelessness in the province.
As part of the National Housing Strategy, Budget 2017 announced a total investment of $2.2 billion over 10 years to tackle homelessness through an expanded and redesigned Homelessness Partnering Strategy.
