Four members of the Prince George Spruce Kings will represent the Mainland Division as a finalist for the BCHL’s annual individual awards.
Stage one of voting was done by the league’s head coaches.
The Spruce Kings leading scorer, Ethan De Jong, is one of three in the running for MVP.
Others nominees from the Spruce Kings are Evan DeBrouwer for Top Goalie, Ben Poisson for Most Sportsmanlike Player, and Adam Maglio for Coach of the Year.
For the first time in league history, the Goaltending Award is being voted on.
Prior to this season, it simply went to the goalie with the lowest goals-against average based on a minimum 1,000 minutes played.
DeBrouwer was named Spruce Kings MVP on Sunday during the team’s awards ceremony.
Other trophies that will be awarded but are not voted on are the Ron Boileau Memorial Trophy (best regular-season record), the Brett Hull Trophy (top scorer), and the Wally Forslund Trophy (goaltending tandem with the best combined goals-against average [GAA]).
The coaches will submit another round of votes to determine the winner of each trophy.
The winners will be announced next week prior to the start of the playoffs.
