Local history award honoured to PG Retired Teachers’ Association

Three recipients received the 2018 Jeanne Clark Local History Awards from the Board of Trustees of the Prince George public library.

The 33rd annual event was held Sunday night at the PG library to recognize individuals or groups for their contributions in the preservation and promotion of local and regional history.

The Prince George Retired Teachers’ Association received an award for their four-part series, Historical memories, which featured 138 former and present SD57 schools. 33 people contributed to the four volumes.

The Regional District of Fraser-Fort George was honoured for their services for the Golden Raven Discovery Pass, which provides library cardholders with free access to Northern BC’s museums, galleries and cultural attractions.

Jay Sherwood, retired teacher-librarian, was recognized for his book Ootsa Lake Odyssey, which explores the lives of George and Else Seel. The couples property was flooded in the 1950’s because of the Nechako Reservoir as part of the Alcan project.

The ceremony is named after Jeanne Clark who was a long time Prince George resident and was also fundamental in establishing the library boards local committee, she herself was a board member.
