Council looked over the Hart petition for new pool in their area

Residents of the Hart are going to have to wait a while before a public pool is built.

More than 1,600 residents in that area singed the petition that would allocate funds from the new Four Season Leisure Pool being built downtown, and use it to build a new public swimming area in the hart.

Mayor Lyn Hall says they are appreciative of the people who signed the petition, but council is to far invested in the new pool downtown.

“We are a long ways down the road in this project and we did have a referendum, which was passed. We were specific about where the pool would be located throughout presentations around the referendum question.”

Hall added this sends a message about the work that needs to be done in areas like the Hart, and other locations in our community to bring more projects residents desire.

In the petition, it states that the voter turnout was significantly low, but Hall says it was the peoples choice to come out and vote on a new location for the pool.

“We were very adamant about the fact we were going to present a referendum on both expenditure questions, one of 15 million for a new fire hall and one of 35 million for the pool. We put that out there, we wanted the community to come out and vote on the referendum if they choose to, that’s fantastic, if not, that’s their decision.”
