The Cariboo Cougars won both of their games in Abbotsford over the third place Fraser Valley Thunderbirds but they did not make up any ground on the Valley West Hawks in the battle for first place.
The Major Midget Cougars outscored the Thunderbirds 6-5 on Saturday and 6-3 on Sunday.
In opener, Hunter Floris scored twice while Mason Richey and Brandon Dent both added a goal and two assists to lead the way for the Cats.
In the second half of the doubleheader, Dent tallied twice, Richey notched a goal and three assists while Floris chipped in with a goal and a helper.
The (27-6-3-0) Major Midget Cougars are tied for first place with the (27-4-2-1) Valley West Hawks, although the Hawks have two games in hand.
Valley West won both of its home games against the Okanagan Rockets by scores of 5-1 Saturday and 4-1 Sunday.
The Cougars have four regular season road games left: Saturday (8:45am at UBC) and Sunday (9am in Burnaby) against the Vancouver NW Giants and they close on March 10th (3pm) and 11th (10am) against the Rockets in Kelowna.
Meanwhile, former Cariboo Cougars defenceman Brandon Manning scored his 5th goal of the season for the Philadelphia Flyers in a 7-4 Sunday victory over the New York Rangers.
