Canada’s annual inflation rate was 2.0% in September.
That number is down .1% from August, though a report from Statistics Canada says prices rose in all categories they study, with the biggest surges in housing and food costs.
Analyst Julie Charest with StatsCan says specific factors raising the rate right now are rising prices in meat, electricity, telephone services, and food.
“At the same time, we saw downward pressure [on consumer prices] coming from clothing, home owners replacement costs, alcohol beverages purchased from stores, and furniture.”
Charest says BC’s rate rose to 1.2%, while Ontario and Alberta are seeing the biggest gains of 2.6% each.
