Forestry Asia trade mission update

The Minister of forests had an update on their Asia Trade mission earlier on Thursday.

Minister Steve Thomson says meetings with Paper Excellence in China went very well:

“They have four pulp mills in BC and they are very serious about their investments, 100% of production from the Mackenzie Mill and the majority of production from Howe Sound feeds their Gold East paper mill which is the largest paper mill in the world and we toured their facilities over here, over one billion dollars in capital investment and the largest and fastest paper mill in the world”

Thomson said they were in Japan, and would be leaving shortly for Korea.

He also stressed the importance of the trip, as China, Japan and Korea are among BC’s top five markets for softwood products, and received over 40 percent of BC’s softwood lumber exports in 2013.
