Olympian Clara Hughes will be coming to Prince George next month to help celebrate the YMCA of Northern BC’s 50th anniversary.
On November 19th she’ll address two thousand high school students from district 57 before hosting an event that evening at the UNBC Canfor Theatre.
Northern BC YMCA CEO Amanda Alexander says the six time medallist has an inspiring story;
“One of the things the YMCA is really passionate about is inspiring potential. I think that’s what Clara Hughes speaks to, she’s an amazing individual who didn’t necessarily come from the easiest background and was quite a rebellious youth.”
Amanda says she will be talking about how physical activity changed her life;
“Activity is something that not only brought her to be an amazing Olympian but also helped her in terms of navigating mental health issues and being able to engage with a healthier peer group. We believe she is amazing person to bring to the community.”
Hughes is the only Canadian athlete to have podium finishes in both the Winter and Summer Games; two in cycling and four in speed skating. That ties her with Cindy Klassen as the most decorated Canadian Olympian ever.
Tickets for the event are $35 + tax and are available at the YMCA.
