Canada Winter Games torch lit in Ottawa

A contingent representing Prince George and the Canada Winter Games was in Ottawa today for the lighting of the games torch.

Games spokesperson Alison Gourlay Cramer says its way a big day for them;

“We kicked off the torch relay across Canada and lit the Roly McLenahan torch from the centennial flame on parliament hill. We were thrilled and honoured to have both the governor general of Canada with us and the Minister of Sport Bal Gosal”

Olympian speed skater Catriona Le May Doan was also a part of the ceremony.

The torch will now make its way to Victoria for a ceremony on the steps of the BC legislature at 10am tomorrow.

On Saturday the torch will travel to the Vancouver Sports Hall of Fame followed by New Westminster, Burnaby and Kamloops (previous Canada Winter Games cities) before making its way north to Prince George.
