IIO hopes both northerners and organizations benefit from workshops

Members of the public will have a chance to speak to the Independent Investigation Office of BC, the Civilian Review and Complaints Commission and the BC civil Liberties Association on how the RCMP operates in the north.

The free workshops have already been held in both Terrace and Smithers, generating a positive outcome so far.

“They’ve raised some issues that we’ve been able to discuss and address that has helped open a dialogue, which is really important. All of these opportunities are learning opportunities for us, that will help us do our job, as we go down the road.” Stated IIO’s Chief Civilian Director Ron MacDonald.

“The IIO’s business is protecting the public interest, and in order to do that we need to reach out to the public to communicate with them, to inform them about us, let them know the type of work we do and how we do it.”

This will be the first time MacDonald has travelled to the north, and says being in the community is the best way to understand what more can be done.

The workshop will be held Friday, from 2pm until 4pm at the Fire Pit Culture Drop-In Centre.
