It’s the year of the dog for the Chinese New Year.
The College of New Caledonia will celebrate it with its 8th annual event for the changing of the guard on the Chinese calendar.
“I think it’s very important for not just CNC but Prince George to recognize Chinese culture as part of the Canadian culture,” explains International Student Engagement Coordinator Miley Yang.
“We try to blend the two cultures together.”
A buffet will be featured with both western and traditional Chinese dishes.
Entertainment includes modern and traditional Chinese dance and a rap performance by CNC students.
Helping with the set-up and festivities is international student leader Vincent Chen.
He thinks it’s a great way to bring students together.
“Sometimes it feels really hard to study abroad and this event unites the students together,” he says.
“It feels great to [have] people come together and contribute to the things you like and I think that’s the main point that matters.”
The year of the dog represents loyalty and honesty, as well as being amiable, kind, cautious, and prudent.
CNC’s celebration is February 9th.
