PG Residents Will Get A Jolt Out Of A New Station

A new development could see more electric vehicles passing through Prince George.

A grant worth $9,000 has been approved by the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George to build an electric vehicle charging station from Kamloops to PG.

Executive Director of the Community Energy Association, Dale Littlejohn, says many municipalities in the north want these stations.

“There all very interested in driving tourism from electric vehicles and promoting that. So you have some local economic development as well as providing choices to residence up there, along with folks in the rest of the province has.”

The same project has been launched in the Kootenays, which has seen a spike in people from Alberta taking a road trip through BC.

This may also gear people towards trying to reduce their carbon footprint.

“When you look at the municipalities and the emissions in the region, transportation is about 60 per cent of the emissions across communities in the corridor and there’s very few ways to take a big bite out of that without electrifying.”

There’s no timeline yet on when the station will be completed.
