WWFC President to hold keynote address at UNBC

The 2018 Cumulative Impacts Research Consortium Forum begins Thursday at the University of Northern BC.

Opening the event will be a keynote address by World Wildlife Fund Canada President and CEO Megan Leslie titled: Cumulative Impacts to Wildlife and Habitat Conservation in an Era of Environmental Change.

It will provide insight on the emerging directions in wildlife and habitat conservation.

Leslie explains the importance of this on a national scale.

“The situation facing wildlife across Canada is pretty profound, it’s all of these multiple stressors, layer upon layer of issues facing wildlife,” she says.

“We’re finding the answers are very complicated and we’re actually having a hard time sometimes even figuring out what we need to do.”

This is due to the number of variables surrounding the issue, according to Leslie.

“When we know what the answers are, we can actually work on things like shipping noise, we can actually work on things like restoring spawning habitats, but that’s the thing you have to look at the big picture, all these little pieces really add up and have a big impact.”

Leslie’s keynote address will be at 7:00pm in the Canfor Theatre.
