BCNRF PREVIEW: National, provincial leaders earmarked for 15th annual event

The BC Natural Resources Forum kicks off its 15th annual conference today in Prince George.

Provincial politicians are slated to speak on the forestry sector, and Premier John Horgan will deliver the program’s keynote speech Wednesday afternoon.

Spokesperson Kevin Brown says the event itself has gone national with its list of speakers.

“We have four federally-ranked speakers, including Natural Resources Canada Minister Jim Carr, the CEO and President of the Conference Board of Canada Dr. Daniel Muzyka; we have the new CEO and President of World-Wildlife Canada Megan Leslie coming, and we also have the National Chief of the Assembly of First Nations Perry Bellegarde coming as well. So I believe this is the strongest program ever in the 15 years of this event.”

Several panels, Q & A’s, and lectures will also take place during the three-day event to commemorate the milestone year.

Brown claims this is the only conference in the entire country where the public can get clear updates.

“This event will answer questions like, ‘What are the key issues in the forest industry?,’ ‘What is happening in the mining and minerals exploration sector?’ ‘What’s going on in energy?,’ and ‘What are some of the challenges and opportunities those folks are looking at?’”

He adds the message of the BCNRF is to identify and address what matters most to the Northern region in those respective sectors.

All engagements will occur at the Prince George Civic Centre.
