The BC government is launching a campaign to look at, and create safer campuses.
The Prevent Sexual Violence campaign will be a way for students, faculty and staff at BC’s post secondary institutions to share their thoughts on sexual violence policies.
Associate Vice Presidents, People, Organizational Design and Risk Barb Daigle says there are many policies in place to help students.
“Most of them go online and our website their first source of information or they could go to our campus security office or our student advisor. Pretty much everybody in those responses are trained.”
All 25 public post-secondary institution in BC are required by law to have a policy in place that addresses sexual violence and misconduct.
This is something UNBC takes seriously and responds to quickly.
“Depends on what we are responding to, but if someone comes forward with a complaint there’s an immediate response team set up. Now it may take a while to sort through and do an investigation etcetera, but complaints are acted on immediately.”
Daigle says the university is committed to helping students have a safe working environment and that she’s happy the government is trying to raise awareness on the matter.
