Jobless rate declines in the North

The unemployment rate fell nationally, provincially, and here in the North, last month.

Vincent Farrow with Statistics Canada says BC’s jobless rate fell slightly to 6.1% in September from 6.5%.

He says the stats show a similar decline in Northern BC.

“We have an unemployment rate of 5.8% and a year ago it was 6.5%,” Farrow says.

He says sectors that saw some growth were service industries like educational services, health care, and social assistance.

StatsCan reports the national jobless rate fell to six point eight per-cent, the lowest it has been since 2008.
