PG RCMP Release 2017 Holiday Numbers

The Prince George RCMP had a busy 2017 holiday, but not as busy compared to 2016.

The holiday numbers showed calls for service from December 20th to January 1st were down to 1,222 from 1,352 the previous year.

Corporal Craig Douglass says there is a couple of reasons why the numbers went down.

“Sometimes it’s when the holidays fall and what day they fall that can affect it. Generally what we see over the holidays is a lot of people together in close quarters with each other so we get a lot of domestic types situations we have to respond too, we of course get alcohol related things, noise complaints from parties, and impaired driving situations.”

Overall Douglass says this is a typical holiday officers see, and although the numbers seem high, officers are busier in the summer time than winter.

In total for 2017, RCMP offices responded to 44,000 service calls, up from 2016 when they saw 41,400.
