It’s almost like a tradition to look back at the previous 12 months once New Year’s rolls around.
This is no exception for Prince George – Peace River – Northern Rockies MP Bob Zimmer, who has “Coffee with your MP” near the top of his list for best events in 2017.
His favourite moment of the last year, though, may surprise you.
“Number one for me was seeing Quia Birch finally getting his Canadian citizenship,” explains the MP.
“For anyone who doesn’t know about Quia, he was the stateless person that was born in the U.S., was brought across the border, and lived in McBride; he finally received it this July and I’d say that’s my absolute highlight.”
One struggle Zimmer says he’s faced is being able to juggle his work in B.C. with his work in Ottawa.
“There’s so many facets to this job, sometimes the more effective you can be in Ottawa means you’re spending more time away from your riding,” Zimmer says.
“So it’s to balance that and to do a better job of balancing constituency work and the Member of Parliament work.”
Zimmer says this is something he will continue to work towards in 2018.
