The Caledonia Nordic Ski Club will be installing a new snowmaking machine thanks to $175,000 in funding.
The funds come from the Community Gaming Grant; the ski club is one of 60 organizations across the province to receive money from this grant.
The snowmaking machine will make life better for skiers, according to Past-President Kevin Pettersen.
“It provides us the ability to have more reliable and more sustainable snow,” he says.
“So the more reliable snow will be in the early season and more sustainable snow in the later part of the season.”
The machine will also benefit the park and city in attracting international events.
Caledonia Nordic Ski Club is hosting the 2019 World Para-Nordic Skiing Championship and requires guaranteed snow.
“The snowmaking ability opens it up for us to not only host this event but for other events that are world-caliber,” says Petterson.
“So this is certainly critical to attracting this level of events in our community and this positions us well on the world stage.”
The snowmaking will be directed primarily to the core trails and the stadium.
