Lead in PG water not concerning, city making minor fixes

A recent study by the city may have caused some residents to be wary of drinking the water from taps and fountains in municipal buildings.

There is no cause for concern though, says Councillor Brian Skakun, as administration has found the water to be drinkable.

“It’s really an educational thing,” Skakun says.

“Turn your tap on for a bit and let it run, whether it’s a city facility or your home, just to make sure there isn’t any concentration of lead.”

Skakun says this issue is usually only found in older taps.

“If some of the water stays static, or turned off, after so many hours there may be a little bit of lead that accumulates.”

The study’s results were released at the beginning of the month and the city has been working on minor upgrades to keep the public worry-free.

Skakun assures the city is looking to replace valves anywhere it is needed with new ones that clearly state on the packing it is lead-free to avoid any future issues.
