There was just one delegation from Monday night’s regular council meeting.
Downtown PG was making their case to renew the Prince George Downtown Business Improvement Area Levy Bylaw, which has been in place since 1999.
“Now, I think, people really appreciate more than ever what’s happening downtown,” says Downtown PG president, Eoin Foley.
“It’s definitely having a nice resurgence, I would say, and there’s a lot more confidence and business downtown and development downtown.”
The levy is very important to the work Downtown PG does.
“It basically allows for the tax levy that’s placed on the downtown properties to continue to exist as it has been since 1999.”
The project the organization does include beautification efforts such as the extra lighting on 3rd Avenue and George Street, and their biggest single event of the year, Summerfest.
This new term is set for seven years, opposed to the regular five years.
The current bylaw expires March 31st, 2018; council has approved the first two reading of the bylaw.
