College of New Caledonia formally swears in new president

The College of New Caledonia formally installed its new president today in a ceremony attended by a long list of dignitaries.

Henry Reiser comes to the north from a post at Kwantlen College as the Dean of technology, applied science and apprenticeship.

He says one of his focuses will be making sure all the campuses operate at the same level;

“I want to standardize our academic agenda within the institution. That means that the academic experience that any student has anywhere within our college, we have one college with six campuses, that experience needs to be the same”

Reiser also said he is looking forward to making sure every student is happy with their education;

“We are about student success and student retention. So we should have appropriate evaluations of the students entering into the programs to ensure that they are successful”

Other speakers from government and UNBC expressed optimism for education in northern BC as the province invests in resource extraction.

Reiser was sworn in by BC Supreme Court Justice Glen Parrett.
