A historic ceremony took place at the College of New Caledonia Today.
The Lheidli T’enneh flag is now flying high beside the Canadian, BC and CNC flag.
Mayor Lyn Hall says the relationship between the city and host first nation will continue to grow.
“We find different things to collaborate on different things to partner with. So who knows what the future has in store for us, but one thing is for sure we’ll continue to build that relationship, It’s integral for us to do that as a city.”
Lheidli T’enneh First Nation Chief Dominic Frederick says this ceremony at CNC is just another step in the right direction.
“To me it’s another mark in history to solidify the territory and show everyone we are working together with our partners.”

The flag raising celebration is to mark the ‘We Learn Together’ Memorandum of Understanding signing between CNC and the Lheidli T’enneh First Nation back on June 21st.
The college serves 21 first nations and this is the first formal MOU says Henry Reiser, College of New Caledonia President.
“This is the beginning. The idea is that when we sign the MOU’s we have matching drums and we’re going to hang the drums of all of our partners in our boardroom where they are located geographically in our region.”
The agreement informs continued work on indigenizing curriculum and student services at CNC to improve co-operative, long-lasting and beneficial relationship for advancement of education.
