Firefighter's boat-theft trial underway

A trial is underway for a member of Prince George Fire Rescue, who is accused of stealing a boat.

Benjamin Williams is charged with theft over $5,000 after being arrested in May 2013.

The boat’s proper owner, Donald Lane testified that his boat was in mint condition before it was stolen, saying when police recovered it, it was covered in scratches, with a poor paint job, and a missing ignition.

Cst. Jamie Baker, who was involved in Williams’ arrest, also testified on the poor state of the boat when police found it.

A video was also shown to the court, where Williams is seen discussing the boat’s theft with another member of PG Fire Rescue, saying “this is going to put a black eye on the department”.
