Tourism numbers in Prince George have jumped compared to the previous year.
There was an increase of 17 per cent in visitors over October 2016.
Spokesperson for tourism PG Annie Doran says there are a couple of factors that contributed to the rise.
“People were evacuated to the emergency centres in Prince George. So we had ten thousand extra people in our city in July and August, but as well there were people that had gone up to Alaska earlier in the summer and came back through later in the fall and there are still people going to Alaska in the fall as well.”
The BC wildfire did have a big effect on numbers, but more activities in the northern capital also caught the eyes of some travellers said Doran.
“We have a lot of awesome events that happen in Prince George like concerts, the Nut Cracker, Theater Northwest has a play, there was just a wine festival. So there are lost of events that attracted regional visitors.”
When it came to international visitation the numbers in BC stayed the same level.
