The Caledonia Nordic Ski Club celebrated the second phase of the Rickbeil Family Nordic Light Park.
For the first phase, built back in 2015, the family donate over $140,000.
This time $275,000 was donated to extent the led light park from 5 kilometres to 15 kilometres.
Past President for the Ski Club Kevin Petterson says this lights the way for more opportunities for the club.
“Not only does it add a lot to our community, but it attracts a lot of the attention with the Nordic community across Canada and around the world and I think that’s what’s really helped us attract things like the world championship that we’re hosting in 2019.”
Ken Rickbeil had his whole family come out to the celebration of light at the ski club.
He says the reason why they donate is because the memories they have of the club.
“Prince George was good to our family. My parents passed away a few years ago and we were looking for something to do to kind of commemorate the family and give something back to Prince George.”
Rickbeil says the whole idea behind the lighting is so skiers can have more time to train or to just get out and experience the sport.
