Mayor and council were on hand today at Mr. PG to help unveil a new set of interpretive signs.
PG Heritage Commission Chair Jeff Elder says the signs are similar to the others the Heritage Commission has placed along the river;
“The signs just tell some of the stories, about some of the different versions of Mr Prince George. He used to be downtown; the first one was actually at the former Simon Fraser Hotel, he was about a meter and a half tall and they used to dress him up for conventions.”
He went on to say that like him or not, Mr. PG is a big part of local culture;
“The community really got behind Mr. Prince George. There are many versions of him, there are souvenir miniatures, there’s a lamp and a phone booth. It’s just a part of our history”
The signs were placed in preparation for city’s centennial next year.
