BC Liberal Leadership Forum/Debate Taking Place in PG Today

Six BC Liberal Leadership candidates are in Prince George for a forum today at the Coast Inn of the North.

This is the second leadership forum, out of six, that are expected to be held in regions throughout the province.

One of the top priorities runner Dianne Watts says is important to discus, is the NDP governments decision to change the current voting system.

“We really have to defeat the referendum on proportional representation that will affect all of the small communities, it will affect the rural communities right through this province.”

The new proposal would need the support of 50 per cent, plus one of the vote in order to be successful.

This would throw out the current, first-past-the-post system where the candidate with the most votes win.

Another topic that the next liberal leader needs to focus on is reaching out to more people Watts added.

“I think one of the things in the last election, is that there was a huge disconnect and we need to be reconnecting and making sure that what we do is relevant in peoples lives and not telling them what they can and cannot do and should have.”

The Forum will start at 10:30am and candidates that will be in attendance are:

  • Michael de Jong
  • Michael Lee
  • Dianne watts
  • Sam Sullivan
  • Andrew Wilkinson
  • Todd Stone
