Prince George Legion and Shirley Bond gift dementia residents with a new companion

MLA Shirley Bond visited the Gateway Assisted Living Building today with the Prince George Legion to present the residents of the dementia unit with a Spinoza Bear.

The bear was originally designed for children, but Director of Residential Services Jason Jaswall says it will help out the elderly as well.

“Research has suggested that the Spinoza Bear has useful therapeutic benefits for residents that are on the dementia journey. So from our perspective, anything we can do to enhance the quality of life is something we are keenly interested in”

The PG Legion Zone Commander John Scott says they are very happy to be able to make the donation;

“We saw the emotional impact it had for the Alzheimer cases up here; they love those kinds of things. Some even started dancing”

Unfortunately the expensive bears are now rare, as the company behind them has gone out of business.

Something going on in the Prince George area you think people should know about?
