Final harvest for downtown community garden

The community garden on Victoria St. and Seventh Ave. won’t be producing anymore crops.

The temporary garden was uprooted, says Terry McLymont, Executive Director of the Recycling and Environmental Action Planning Society, with its tools and equipment distributed to 13 other community gardens in Prince George and one in Vanderhoof.

“That means [those] community groups are going to be the beneficiaries of items that are currently at the community gardens,” she says.

The intent was to always be able to move the garden, once Integris Credit Union said they wanted the land back.

Since 2009, the community garden brought together social agencies and businesses from the downtown area.

McClymont says the garden won’t be revived in another location, but instead, REAPS would like to share information to people interested in starting their own community garden.
