One rezoning application at Monday’s regular council meeting brought four residents’ letters opposing it.
The application was so the developer could go ahead with residential buildings near the intersection of 22nd Avenue and Ospika Boulevard. The application has passed through third reading.
The reason this was opposed by multiple members of the public was not necessarily because of the buildings, rather the traffic congestion in the area and extra traffic that would come with more people living there.
“Multi-family residences and densification is not new to that neighbourhood, there are a lot of existing townhouses and family-type units there,” explains Councillor Jillian Merrick.
“The bigger issue is really the terrible problem we have with the Ospika intersections near the CN Centre.”
Merrick says she does believe the city is looking at a way to incorporate some sort of lit crossing at the intersection but does not know what kind, exactly, it will be.
