The Kelowna Rockets spoiled the Prince George Cougars home opener with a 7-2 victory over the Cats before a capacity crowd of 5,659. The Rockets took control of the game with five straight goals in a span of just 7:25 in the 2nd period. The same teams meet again tonight (Saturday) at CN Centre. Kelowna is 2-0 and P.G. sits 1-2.
–Justin Rai notched a hat trick to lead the Prince George Spruce Kings to a 5-3 victory over the Coquitlam Express. The Spruce Kings are off to a 3-0 start and face off again tonight in Coquitlam before concluding the road trip Sunday in Surrey.
–The 2-0 Major Midget Cariboo Cougars have their first league road games of the season as they visit the Vancouver NE Chiefs today (Saturday) and Sunday.
–The Trinity Western Spartans outscored the UNBC Timberwolves in exhibition women’s basketball 79-73 to sweep the pre-season doubleheader at the Northern Sport Centre. The Lady Timberwolves host Grande Prairie in another exhibition women’s basketball game Sunday at 10am.
–The UNBC Timberwolves host the Victoria Vikes in Canada West soccer. The double-headers go today (Saturday) and Sunday at noon and 2:15pm (at Rotary).
