Bike-A-Thon pedals almost $26,000 for healthcare equipment

For eight years, the Punjabi Canadian Senior Society and Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation have teamed together for an annual Bike-A-Thon fundraiser.

“It’s fun, it’s family oriented,” says Gordie Powar, Event Lead.

“Annually we pedal from the hospital to Purden Lake and back.”

This year, they set the highest mark ever at $25,871.

“The most important thing, I find, is that the money stays in the community, where it’s needed the most.”

The donation will support the Regional Cardiac Strategy at the University Hospital of Northern BC.

UHNBC is currently in the process of purchasing four diagnostic ECHO Ultrasounds top form the basic part of the Strategy.

“Annually they choose which area to would like to put it to,” explains Judy Neiser, Spirit of the North CEO.

“This year it’s been cardiac.”

The Society has raised $111,780 in total since the inaugural Bike-A-Thon.
