The UBC Thunderbirds rebounded quickly Saturday against the UNBC Timberwolves by cruising to a 4-1 victory from the North Cariboo Senior Soccer League (NCSSL) fields.

Victory Shumbusho and Mackenzie Cole gave the T-Birds a 2-0 lead at halftime, while Luke Griffin and Patrik Izett added singles in the second half.

Cody Gysbers penalty kick goal late in the second half was the lone marker in a losing effort for UNBC who were without Canada West All-Star Gordon Hall and fellow defender Josh McAvoy.

The T-Wolves earned a spilt against the second-ranked T-Birds.

Despite the loss, UNBC defender Aidan Way believes the team took some giant strides.

“This was good for us. I don’t think anyone was expecting us to get points against UBC. Unfortunately we didn’t win today, but a split is fantastic.”

UBC improves to 6-2-1, while UNBC falls to 4-5-3 and hit the road for UBC-Okanagan next weekend in Kelowna.

The T-Wolves women’s soccer team earned a 1-1 draw in Vancouver on Sunday against UBC.

Tianna Pius scored in the 79th minute to even the score.

UNBC improves to 2-5-1 on the season and will continue their road trip next Saturday and Sunday against MacEwan.
