Carbon Reduction Project continues to benefit PG businesses

Plaque shows how to reduce your carbon footprint; Wayne Carrasco, My PG Now

A wrap-up celebration was put on Wednesday morning for CN’s Carbon Reduction Project for Business, by the Prince George Chamber of Commerce.

The event took place at Duchess Community Park where there were guest speakers, a plaque unveiling, and two trees dedicated at the playground.

The plaque displays ways the public can reduce their carbon footprint to help make the city and planet more sustainable.

The project was put on in conjunction with the University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC), who put on a ‘Carbon Management: Sustainable Business in a Carbon-Constrained World’ course.

For the program, UNBC students would pair with a local business and analyze their carbon footprint for free.

“[The business] was looking for confirmation that they were doing it as sustainably as possible,” says Rachelle Linde, a student who took the course. “I was able to work with them a create a report that helps see how they could be doing more, and where they are doing well.”

In three years, UNBC students have done carbon footprint analysis for 25 businesses; the course is committed to run until 2019.
