The host committee for the 2017 TELUS Cup has announced the largest legacy in the 44-year history of Canada’s National Midget Championship.
In total, $180,000 will be distributed to five organizations in Prince George and across British Columbia.
This is how the money will be dispersed:
- $72,000 – B.C. Hockey to establish a Regional Centre in Prince George;
- $45,000 – Scholarship program for B.C. Major Midget League;
- $36,000 – Cariboo Cougars;
- $13,500 – KidSport; and
- $13,500 – JumpStart

“We are thrilled to unveil this legacy, and continue to assist in the growth of the game not only locally, but provincially as well,” say John Morrison and Shawn Rice, host committee co-chairs. “The 2017 TELUS Cup was a week to remember for everyone involved, from players to volunteers, and this announcement ensures the impact will continue to be felt for years to come.”
The event was hosted by the Cariboo Cougars from April 24-30.
It was the second time Prince George hosted the championship, after 2001.
The 2017 TELUS Cup also contributed approximately $1.8 million in economic activity to the host region and over $2.8 million provincially.
