Anti-racism rally held in Prince George

An anti-racism rally was held Saturday outside of the Prince George town hall.

The event drew dozens of people including Mayor Lyn Hall and Prince George – Valemount MLA Shirley Bond. Both political figures spoke at the event as well.

Arctica Cunningham, who helped organize the rally, believes the rally is a great way for people to get together and make the city as supportive as possible.

“We want to bring people together in a really positive way to say that we feel strongly that this is a welcoming community;” She explains. “[and] that our people, all people, should be held in equal regard and should feel safe.”

The event started with a couple community members who were concerned with recent global events, namely Charlottesville and backlash regarding that event, and felt Prince George should take action.

As of right now, there are no plans for any more rallies in the future, however, Cunningham does say they are open to the possibility. She says the support and response from the community members who showed up was exceptional.
