With winter approaching BC residents got some good news today when FortisBC announced that they will be cutting natural gas prices for most of the province.
Fortis spokesperson Grace Pickall says the drop in rates is to reflect North America wide commodities prices;
“The North American market gas prices have gone down recently. There was strong production and a low demand of natural gas due to a cooler summer. So that allowed gas storage inventory levels to recover right before the upcoming heating season.”
But NDP MLA and energy critic Norm McDonald says the fall of natural gas prices should be a reality check for the BC Liberals;
“Any suggestion that this is going to lead to the end of sales tax like the Premier has stated, or to a 100 billion dollar prosperity fund always was beyond the realm of possibility and is dishonest to continue to say that”
Prince George residents can expect to save about $82 this winter.
Despite the savings, FortisBC wants to remind you to take advantage of its Home Energy Rebate program, which in tandem with BC Hydro, offers $6000 in rebates for energy efficient updates on their homes.
Details for that program can be found here.
