Expect to see many with decals sporting the words BC Strong.
Graphic designer Becky Dochstader says she came up with the design after one of her friends, Rajan Sharma, who is active in the volunteering realm of Prince George reached out to her a little while back thinking about Boston and Fort Mac which had strong movements in tragic times.
She says she came up with a design and that he had suggested they contact SignTek Industries who had worked with him and his son.
“He’s done a bunch of work with them before project for ‘candy kid’ – that’s his son is selling chocolate bars for the BC Children’s Hospital. So he contacted SignTek and was like ‘hey, can you do these stickers,’ and he didn’t even have to ask; next they were printing hundreds and hundreds of stickers for us. People all over BC had wanted them.”
Dochstader says they had started selling them about a week ago and that she is still getting as many inquiries and questions about them as she said on day one.
Proceeds from each decal which can be purchased by donation will be going to the Canadian Red Cross for evacuees.
“Depending on how much money we’re raising which is still kind of a question mark because the orders just keep coming in, we think we might donate a little bit to the Prince George Humane Society as well with their efforts to help their little four-legged evacuees which are here in our town,” adds Dochstader.
Signtek Industries reported that as of 6 pm Wednesday, more than $9,500 dollars had been raised through Dochstader and Sharma’s awesome idea and that they have received orders from Toronto, Alberta, and even the United States.
By Thursday morning, Signtek Owner / Operator Luc Michaud says they surpassed the $10,000 mark.
“It’s pretty awesome that everybody’s hoped on board and been able to help out. We’ve done that in less than one calendar week.”
Dochstader says the decals are by donation with a recommendation of $5 each.
You can find them at Active Body Nutrition in Prince George and all four Save On Food locations as well as online at The Decal Den.
