Residents permitted to return to Lavington Road area

The Alexis Creek to West Fraser Evacuation Order has been partially downgraded.

Chair of the Cariboo Regional District Al Richmond explains.

“Because of the fact there’s less fire activity and the Fire Centre made a recommendation that we reduce the size of our Order and this will facilitate a large number of ranchers not being in a position of having to go through an Order Area and looking for permits.”

While residents are able to return to the Lavington area nearby locations remain on evacuation order and security will be in place to enforce the order in those areas.

“It is important to note that air quality remains poor as a result of smoke from nearby fire activity. Those with respiratory issues, small children and the elderly should consider this before they choose to return to the area,” states the Cariboo Regional District. “Since this area remains on evacuation alert, anyone returning there must continue to be prepared to evacuate their premises or property should an evacuation be required.”

An evacuation alert meanwhile was issued Tuesday for the area South of Nazko.

Richmond says that they have completed an inventory of the properties affected by the wildfires in the South Cariboo as well as the Spokin Lake and Miocene Area.

“Tracking them down is difficult because of course the BC Assessment shows their home number and we now have to try and find them through the ESS or by word of mouth trying to find where people are. So we’ll continue to do that, but it’s going to take a bit.”
