BC's budget remains balanced

The province’s Minister of Finance presented 2014-2015’s first quarterly report in Victoria today.

The year end surplus is expected to be 82 million dollars higher than previously expected despite wildfire fighting expenses that will balloon nearly 300 million dollars over budget.

The provinces GDP growth is sitting at 1.9 percent with employment growth projected to improve next year by 1.1%, or about 25,000 jobs.

Retail sales are up 5.6% over last year due to gains in the motor vehicle and food and beverage sectors.

Minister Mike de Jong says the budget has been built around assumptions that all public sector labour agreements, not just the teachers, are made within the current affordability mandate.
