More Human Remains found in Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park

Construction of the new pavilion in Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park has again been suspended after crews found more human remains during today’s excavation.

“All of Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park is an archaeological site recognized by the BC Archaeological Branch. The Heritage Investigation Permit issued by the Government of British Columbia for Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park identifies a process for construction that includes procedures for when remains are discovered. As per this process, an additional archaeological assessment will be undertaken but the timelines for completion of this work is not known at this time,” says City Director of External Relations Rob van Adrichem.

This is the second time human remains have halted the project. The first discovery and delay were in early-June.

A brand new $809,000 picnic pavilion is being built in the park, part of Canada’s 150 celebrations.
