Progress being made on new UHNBC Learning Centre

The Northern Health partnership between UNBC and UBC is expanding and MLA’s Shirley Bond and Mike Morris toured the job site for the new Learning Development Centre with members of the media today.

The building will make collaboration with the other UBC medical campuses around the province easier and enhance the whole UBC Northern Health partnership with UNBC.

Northern Health Director of Development Services Peter Kallos says the building with be state of the art inside and out.

“The space here needs to be equal quality of what’s happening with the rest of the province.” Said Kallos “Because we are building ours last, we are finding we’re able to take advantage of some of the more modern technology that’s coming forward like the video wall and the other AVIT pieces that will be put into the facility when its built.”

The building is being constructed out of a innovative new material called cross laminated timber which is manufactured by Penticton based Structurelam.

If all goes to plan, the building should be open April 2015 with a budget of just under ten million dollars.
